How to Break Free from Negativity
It seems that everywhere we turn, we face negativity.
At home, at work, on television and in almost every newspaper headline it seems that there is always something negative to be seen.
This can have a big effect on the way people think and feel throughout their daily lives.
It’s no wonder that Depression and anxiety disorders have become so much more common in our society.
It is possible to break free from negativity, even though many people are not even aware of the way they think and feel.
They just accept negativity as a part of daily life. It may be true that we can’t shield ourselves from every negative encounter.
But there are steps we can take to break free from negative thoughts and feelings within ourselves.
Take Notice of the Positive.
The negative is never hard to find.
But finding things to be happy about or appreciate takes practice.
Practicing recognition of the things that make us happy or content will make doing so seem more natural.
Simply thinking things such as “I enjoyed that” or “My day is going really well” on a regular basis will help improve your mood over time.
Become Self Aware.
We think all the time whether we are aware of it or not and the way we think has more effect on the way we feel than almost anything.
How often do you mentally complain about yourself and other people?
Are these thoughts rational or exaggerated?
Recognising negative thoughts and changing them to something positive can create a sense of achievement and wellbeing.
A good self awareness exercise is to write down ten things that you like about yourself.
Then read the card when you need to feel good about yourself.
Find a place to relax.
We can’t always change the world around us.
But we can create a safe haven for ourselves to escape to when we have time to relax.
It doesn’t have to be a physical place.
Sometimes taking a trip to a favourite holiday destination in your mind for just a few minutes a day can help us forget about the daily hustle and bustle and relax.
Enjoy experimenting with these techniques and find yourself noticing more and more things to be positive about.
